Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to identify the longitudinal trajectory in middle-aged marital relationship satisfaction and depression, and relationship satisfaction with children; and to research the differences between men and women in factors affecting changes in marital relationship satisfaction.

Methods: Analysis was performed applying multivariate latent growth modeling and multiple group analysis from the Korean Welfare Panel was performed.

Results: This study found that middle-aged marital satisfaction, depression, and relationship satisfaction with children decreased over time. Moreover, changes in depression had a negative effect on changes in marital satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction with children had a significant influence on changes in marital satisfaction. For the gender gap, the effect of changes in the depression on changes in marital satisfaction was only found for women, while the influence of the rate of change in relationship satisfaction with children on the rate of change in marital satisfaction was related to both men and women, although the effect size of the rate of change was greater for men than for women.

Conclusions: The results of this study confirm that various approaches are required to strengthen middle-aged marital relationships.
